Why Families Choose Butterfly Home Care
Care designed around autism and developmental disability support from the start
Many home care agencies were originally built around senior care. Butterfly Home Care was designed from the beginning with broader disability support in mind.
Butterfly Certified Caregivers - Every caregiver completes the Butterfly Certified Caregiver program, with training designed specifically for autism and developmental disability support.
Consistent caregivers - Routine is everything for the individuals we support. We make every effort to assign a consistent caregiver and handle any change with advance notice and a thoughtful transition.
Person-centered plans - Every care plan is built with your family, based on your loved one’s goals, communication style, sensory needs, daily routines, and level of support needed.
Licensed agency accountability - Our caregivers are employees, not contractors. They are background-checked, trained, supervised, and supported by our team. If your regular caregiver is unavailable, we handle backup coverage and keep you informed.
A named care coordinator - You have one person to call. Your care coordinator stays actively involved — not just at intake, but throughout the relationship. If something needs to change, they handle it.
Responsive communication - You are kept informed, supported, and never left wondering what comes next. When care needs to be adjusted, our team communicates clearly and acts quickly.
Support for Families
Care that works with your family, not around your family
Our caregivers and coordinators work closely with families, guardians, therapists, schools, and other professionals involved in the person’s support system. This helps keep care consistent and aligned across different parts of daily life.
Depending on the care plan, we may help by:
• Following family routines and household expectations
• Reinforcing therapist-recommended strategies
• Supporting communication techniques already being used
• Coordinating around school, therapy, and appointments
• Helping the individual participate more fully in home and community life
Care plans are regularly reviewed and adjusted as needs change.
At-home support
We help individuals with the daily routines and hands-on support that make home life safer, calmer, and more manageable.
This may include:
Assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, and hygiene
Meal preparation and support with eating routines
Laundry, light housekeeping, and household tasks
Help with routines and transitions throughout the day
Supervision and safety monitoring
Sensory-sensitive support tailored to the individual’s needs
Communication support using the methods included in the care plan
Positive behavior support and calm de-escalation strategies
Medication reminders when appropriate
Support with daily living skills at the person’s own pace
Before services begin
Our caregivers complete:
Background checks and employment verification
CPR and First Aid training
Safety and emergency response training
Disability-specific training
The Butterfly Certified Caregiver program
Thoughtful caregiver matching
We do not match by availability alone. We do our best to match caregivers based on:
Care needs
Personality
Communication style
Sensory needs
Daily routines
Preferences and goals
Whenever possible, we also arrange introductions thoughtfully, especially when the individual is sensitive to change or unfamiliar people.
What support looks like, day to day
Care for autism and developmental disabilities is not one-size-fits-all. The right support depends on the individual’s age, strengths, challenges, routines, and goals. That is why our services are organized around real daily needs, not just a checklist.
Community support
Care does not stop at the front door. We also support individuals in the community so they can stay engaged, build confidence, and practice real-life skills in real-life settings.
This may include:
School drop-off and pick-up
Support during therapy appointments
Accompaniment to medical appointments
Transportation to day programs or educational programs
Community outings and social activities
Everyday errands
Support with participation in volunteer, work-readiness, or structured community activities
Family support
Disability care also means supporting the family as a whole. Families need reliable help, open communication, and room to breathe.
This may include:
Respite care for parents and family caregivers
Reinforcing family routines and household expectations
Collaboration with guardians and care teams
Support that aligns with therapist-recommended strategies when appropriate
Ongoing communication about changes, concerns, and progress
All services are guided by an individualized care plan and person-centered planning process.
Caregivers trained for autism and developmental disability support
The person coming into your home should be someone you can trust.
At Butterfly Home Care, every caregiver goes through screening, training, and oversight before being assigned to a client. We focus on both safety and the relationship-based skills needed to support individuals with autism and developmental disabilities well. If a caregiver match is not right, we want to know. We would rather address it early than leave a family feeling stuck.

Medicaid-Covered and Affordable Personal Care
Many families assume this kind of support is financially out of reach. In many cases, that is not true. Butterfly Home Care helps families understand the payment and funding options available to them.
Payment options and funding support
We accept several payment and funding sources to keep care predictable and stress-free:
Medicaid and Waiver Programs – If your loved one is enrolled in a waiver program or you’re in the process of applying, we can walk you through how services are authorized and what to expect.
Private Pay – We accept credit cards, debit cards, and direct bank payments. Our rates are transparent before care begins — no hidden fees, no surprises. Contact us for a personalized quote.
Long-Term Care Insurance – We work with most major long-term care insurance providers. Bring your policy information to your initial consultation and we’ll help determine what is covered.
Veteran Benefits – We are partnered with Veterans Care Coordination for eligible veterans and their spouses. If a family member has served, we can help you understand whether this benefit may apply.
State & Local Disability Programs – Guidance for regional funding and waiver options

This is one of the most important questions we hear, and we want to answer it honestly. Our caregivers are trained in positive behavior support, de-escalation, and behavior support plans. We do not use punitive approaches. We work with your family and, when appropriate, behavioral specialists to understand the function behind behaviors and respond in ways that are safe, calm, and consistent. That said, we review every situation individually before services begin to make sure we can provide safe and appropriate support.
-
Caregivers are trained to support individuals with a wide range of communication needs, including those who are non-verbal. This includes AAC device use, picture exchange systems (PECS), sign language cues, and other strategies outlined in your loved one’s care plan. If your family member uses a specific communication method, we make sure the assigned caregiver is familiar with it before services begin.
-
Consistency is something we take seriously, especially for individuals with autism or developmental disabilities who rely on familiar routines and relationships. We make every effort to assign a consistent caregiver and to avoid unnecessary rotation. When a change is needed, we handle the transition thoughtfully and with advance notice.
-
Our coordination team works quickly to arrange qualified backup coverage and contacts your family as soon as possible. Backup coverage is our responsibility to manage, not something your family should have to figure out on your own.
-
Yes. Support is not limited to the home. Caregivers can accompany clients to school, therapy, medical appointments, and community activities. They can also assist with school drop-off and pick-up and help reinforce strategies recommended by your child’s therapist or school team.
-
In many cases, we can begin the process the same day you call. Once we complete the intake assessment and care plan, services can often start within days. If you are in an urgent situation, tell us — we will do everything we can to move quickly.
-
Yes. Butterfly Home Care operates as a licensed home care agency and carries appropriate insurance. Our caregivers are employees, not contractors, which means professional standards, oversight, and accountability are built into how we operate. We are happy to provide state-specific details during your initial consultation.
-
No long-term contract is required to begin services. We believe families should feel confident in care before making any extended commitment. We are happy to discuss flexible arrangements that work for your situation.
